Good Friday… The earliest documented use of “Good Friday” dates back to around 1290, in a text called “The South English Legendary”. While Good Friday was observed as the day of Jesus’ crucifixion as early as the 4th century, the term “Good Friday” wasn’t officially used until later. Some sources suggest the name “Good Friday” may have originated from an older term like “God’s Friday” or from a sense of the word “good” meaning “holy” in Old English.

It’s obviously a major part of Holy Week, and as the worship song says… “Friday’s disappointment is Sunday’s empty tomb”… although it sure didn’t feel like an unspeakable empty tomb.

It was dark, and not just any old dark.

Look at the very first verse of Mark, Chapter 15… “At dawn’s first light, the high priests, with the religious leaders and scholars, arranged a conference with the entire Jewish Council. After tying Jesus securely, they took him out and presented him to Pilate.”
