A late edition tonight. Let’s just say that a full morning turned into a full afternoon, which turned into a full evening, and a grand finale of… a full night. Whew, I feel a good night’s sleep is in the hopper.
First, though, let’s tackle Mark, Chapter 11… Let’s consider verses 2-7…
Jesus told two of his Disciples… “Go to the village across from you. As soon as you enter, you’ll find a colt tethered, one that has never yet been ridden. Untie it and bring it. If anyone asks, ‘What are you doing?’ say, ‘The Master needs him, and will return him right away.’”
They went and found a colt tied to a door at the street corner and untied it. It’s so typical of Jesus to do the Atypical, isn’t it?
Bottom line… Expecting the unexpected is a good rule of thumb when it comes to Jesus. He foretold exactly what would happen to his Disciples, and nailed it. He knew that his time was becoming more and more precious, and, while he could have stepped back, he continued to step forward… as a symbol of peace in the shadow of violence that was looming.

There were palm branches and there was a colt.
The colt symbolized a new covenant often associated with the Gentiles, who were traditionally excluded from God’s covenant.
The fact that the colt was unridden has parallels to the idea of Jesus as the sinless, perfect, “unridden” Lamb of God.
There’s nothing typical about him. Jesus will ALWAYS make us think. He will ALWAYS know what’s next. He will ALWAYS speak the truth. He will ALWAYS make us think. And, he will ALWAYS love us and find unique ways to enter our lives as the Prince of peace.
