It’s Thursday, but not just any Thursday. It’s Holy Week Thursday. Within the naming conventions of this week, today is known as Holy Thursday, Sheer Thursday, or, most widely known perhaps… Maundy Thursday.

The word maundy comes from the Old French mande, in turn from the Latin mandātum, which means “mandate or command.” This Latin word is the source of the English word mandate.

The word maundy then signifies not just the ceremony of washing the feet of the poor, (especially commemorating of Jesus’s washing the Disciples’ feet at the Last Supper… but the mandate for us to do the same.

This night will capture the lengths by which Jesus went for us… once and for all time.

  1. Tears stream down my face as I contemplate the deep significance of Christ’s sacrifice for humanity and for me. His willingness to take on all of the darkness and sin of the world and be separated from the Father, is beyond words. How deep the Father’s love for us, How great the sacrifice of Jesus. There truly is Power in the blood!
