Father’s Day weekend, friends! Did you know… The first state-wide celebration took place in Washington in 1910, and it gradually gained national recognition, becoming a federal holiday in 1972. Interestingly, the first known Father’s Day service occurred in Fairmont, West Virginia, on July 5, 1908, after hundreds of men died in the worst mining accident in U.S. history. Grace Golden Clayton, the daughter of a dedicated minister, proposed a service to honor all fathers, especially those who had died. However, the observance did not become an annual event, and it was not promoted; very few people outside of the local area knew about it.

Speaking about allocating sin to biology I once knew a priest who declared that orphaned kids, kids who got placed in foster homes, or people who were born with bodily abnormality had somehow committed a “sin”. We were then in the process of adopting a child when he said that so when he made that claim I stood up and asked a friend iffen he wanted to go play some golf and we did, leaving the adult Sunday class. As it turned out we first had to be foster parents before the adoption took place, and we later learned that he had Muscular Dysttophy and learning disabilities and taught others much. Ain’t no way he was a sinner!
